About this wine

Podere Salicutti is a Tuscan wine producer located southeast of the famous wine-producing village of Montalcino.

The estate was purchased in 1990 by Francesco Leanza, and planted to vine in 1994, but it was not until 1996 that the inaugural vintage of a a Rosso di Montalcino was released. Today, the vineyards are planted to Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Canaiolo, and produce Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Toscana IGT wines.

The estate spans 11 hectares (27 acres), and is planted to 4ha (10 acres) of vines. The property is broken into three vineyards – Piaggione, Sorgente and Teatro – that all face south, protected from the prevailing winds. The soils here are composed of sandy-lime and sandy-clay soils with stone and gravel fragments interspersed.

Grapes destined for Salicutti’s Brunello di Montalcino wines typically come from the Teatro Vineyard, which is planted solely to Sangiovese at an altitude of 1550ft (470m) above sea level.
