If you are looking for a wine that combines tradition and elegance, you should try the Dogliani DOCG 2021 from Poderi Luigi Einaudi.

This wine is made from 100% Dolcetto grapes grown in three estates in the municipality of Dogliani, where this variety expresses its best potential. It has a ruby red color with purple hues and a fruity bouquet of red berries, cherries and plums.

On the palate, it is fresh, smooth and balanced, with a pleasant almond aftertaste. It has a good structure and a moderate alcohol content (14%). It is a versatile wine that can pair well with meat dishes, such as roast beef, lamb chops or veal stew, or with cheese, such as robiola, toma or gorgonzola. It is also a great wine to enjoy by itself, as an aperitif or with some snacks.

This wine has a special story behind it: it was born in 1897 and since then it has never missed a vintage.

It is also the wine that celebrates the 125th anniversary of Poderi Luigi Einaudi, founded by Luigi Einaudi (the first elected President of the Italian Republic).

To mark this occasion, Ludovico Einaudi, the grandson of the founder and a famous composer, has dedicated an original symphony to this wine.

You can listen to it by scanning the QR-code on the back label of each bottle. It is called "Ascolta Dogliani" (Listen to Dogliani) and it captures the essence and the beauty of this wine and its territory.

Do you know what astringent means? It's a word that describes something that shrinks or constricts body tissues⁴. You may have experienced it when you applied calamine lotion or witch hazel on your skin⁴. But did you know that some wines can also be astringent?🍷

Astringent wines are those that leave a dry, puckery feeling in your mouth. This is caused by tannins, which are natural compounds found in grape skins, seeds and stems⁶ . Tannins can also add structure, depth and complexity to wines.

Some examples of astringent wines are Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, which are usually aged in oak barrels to soften their tannins. But if you're looking for some Italian wines that match this description, here are three suggestions for you:

- Sangiovese: This is the most widely planted grape variety in Italy and the main ingredient of Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Sangiovese wines have high acidity and tannins, as well as flavors of cherry, plum and leather.
- Lagrein: This is a native grape variety from Trentino-Alto Adige, a region in northern Italy near the Alps. Lagrein wines have a deep color and a full body, with aromas of blackberry, chocolate and spice. They can also be quite acidic and astringent.
- Etna Bianco: This is a white wine from Sicily that is made mainly from Catarratto and Carricante grapes. It has a high acidity and a mineral character that can give it a slight astringent sensation. It also has aromas of citrus, apple and almond.

"L'abito non fa il monaco" (the dress does not make you a monk) - it's the first thing that came to me when trying this Chardonnay from Trentino during our early #valentineday lunch on the Lakes of Avigliana.

On the nose it was pleasantly sweet, honey like, almost reminding of liquorish wines.
On the palate it was very balanced, with a definite aroma of apples and a hint of hay.

In the end it was a great choice to pair with some elaborate pumpkin dishes, risotto and fish, but what struck me was the contrast between the great quality of this wine and it's label.

The opening sentence is a reminder that looks do not always define content or value, but sometimes it's inevitable to be swayed in judgement by first looks, it's part of being human.

If I can be honest, I was expecting a low quality, acid white that would have resulted in a headache by first looks.
In the field of wine many times is not only important to be great at making wine, but it's also important to have a presentation on level with your quality.

If you're ever in Piedmont I strongly suggest a visit to @ilsorrisoavigliana, a modest, elegant restaurant on the beautiful "Lago Grande" of Avigliana.

Winter is here and what better way to warm up after a day on the slopes than with a hearty plate of polenta and a glass of delicious wine? If you're planning a ski trip to Northern Italy, be sure to try some traditional Italian dishes like polenta and pair them with some of the region's finest wines.

Polenta is a traditional Italian dish made from ground cornmeal, typically cooked with water or broth and often served as a side dish or base for other ingredients, it can be served in a variety of ways, such as creamy, fried, or grilled and can be paired with a variety of meats, vegetables, or cheeses.

In this post, we're sharing some of our favorite wine pairings from our catalogue for polenta, featuring wines from Northern Italy.

First pairing: our homemade polenta with the Barolo DOCG 2015 Monforte d'Alba from Saffirio. The tannins in the Barolo complement the creamy texture of the polenta and bring out the nutty and oaky flavors in the wine.

Second pairing for a unique twist, we also paired the dish with Amarone Classico DOCG 2008 Riserva, "Cave di Prun" from Salvaterra. The rich and concentrated flavors of the Amarone add depth to the dish and the smoky notes in the wine complement the earthy flavors of the polenta.

And last but not least, if you're looking for a lighter pairing, the Vermentino IGT 2019 from Poggio Nibbiale in Toscana is a great choice. The crisp acidity and minerality of the Vermentino cut through the richness of the polenta and bring out the fresh and floral flavors of the wine.
